WISE and AIDOS Conduct Street Food Training in Addis

WISE, in partnership with AIDOS Associazione italiana donne per lo sviluppo, has successfully conducted a comprehensive five-day training program on street food/fast food preparation. This initiative is part of the project, ‘Work-Addis’ which is funded by the Italian Ministry of the Interior. We are privileged to have the expertise of renowned Italian chefs, Albarosa Zofloi and Lavinia Rafaelli. A total of nineteen target members of WISE have participated in the training.

Impact of Interventions

The interventions of WISE, which attempt to be holistic, enable its low-income target women access and control resources, protect themselves and their children from violence, become agents of change in their households and communities. Stories of many exemplary target women show these.
 

Many women who started with a small loan have grown to become owners of assets worth millions of birr, overcoming poverty and demonstrating the capacity of women when given opportunities.

A significant proportion of target women have been able to create jobs for their families and others, e.g. some hire over 30 workers in their enterprises.

Quite a big proportion of the target women have been able to support their children complete university education.

The saving and credit programme has enabled target women access to sustainable micro-finance services in addition to building solidarity and stronger voice among the members.

Being economically independent has enabled target women exercise their rights.

Many informed, transformational women leaders have been developed through the programme
